Punjab BJP chief Ashwani Sharma and over 40 others have been charged for allegedly violating the COVID-19 pointers, police stated on Monday.
Mr Sharma and others have been accused of holding a political assembly at Ghartholi Mohalla on Sunday. They have been charged beneath the related sections of the IPC, the Disaster Management Act and the Epidemic Diseases Act, the stated.
Photos of the political assembly went viral on social media, the police stated.
Police official Mandeep Salgotra stated that Vicky Rampal, an aide of Ashwani Sharma, had allegedly organised the political assembly at his ward in violation of the COVID-19 pointers.
However, the chief of the Punjab unit of BJP dubbed the registration of case in opposition to him and social gathering employees a “desperate move” of the ruling Congress to “muffle the voice of justice”.
In an announcement, Mr Sharma stated the BJP employees have been being implicated in “false cases” as they have been elevating voice in opposition to the Amarinder Singh authorities over the problems of alleged corruption and liquor mafia within the state.
