Brazilian legend Pele hailed Marta as “rather more than a footballer” and an “inspiration” after she scored in a fifth Olympic Games on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old scored twice as Brazil opened their Tokyo Olympics marketing campaign with a 5-Zero rout of China.
“I hope you’re dreaming about what you probably did just a few hours in the past. Speaking of which, what number of desires do you assume you impressed right this moment?” wrote Pele on Instagram.
“Your achievement means rather more than a private document. This second evokes hundreds of thousands of athletes from so many different sports activities, from all around the world, who struggle for recognition.
“Congratulations in your trajectory. Congratulations, you’re rather more than a soccer participant. You assist construct a greater world along with your expertise, wherein ladies achieve more room.”
Pele received three World Cups with Brazil in 1958, 1962 and 1970.
Like Pele, Marta wears her nation’s iconic quantity 10 shirt.
