The Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (JNKVV) has developed two varieties every of oats and wheat, one sort of rice and three sorts of niger, which have been notified by the Centre as being appropriate for manufacturing, the college’s vice-chancellor Dr P Ok Bisen stated.

The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare had issued a gazette notification on January three on this regard, he stated. “Seeds of these new crop varieties will be made available to farmers shortly. This will ensure quality production of crops and generate more income,” Bisen stated.

The new varieties had been examined over a interval of three years in varied agro-climatic situations in particular crop-growing areas of varied states, stated Dr G Ok Koutu, director of analysis companies on the JNKVV. Of the 2 new sorts of oats, JO 05-304 is appropriate for manufacturing in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, whereas JO 10-506 might be produced in Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, japanese area of Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Manipur, he stated.

The new sorts of wheat “MP 1323 and MP 1358 and rice JR 10” might be grown in particular areas of Madhya Pradesh, he stated. Three sorts of niger (ramtil) JNS 521, JNS 2015-9 and JNS 2016-1115 are appropriate for irrigated and non-irrigated areas of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Dr Koutu added.
