More Than 20 Killed As Bus Swept Away Into Flooded River In Kenya

Nairobi, Kenya:

More than 20 individuals drowned on Saturday when a bus travelling to a marriage in Kenya was swept away by fast-flowing waters because it tried to cross a flooded river.

Onlookers screamed because the yellow faculty bus employed to take a church choir and different revellers to the ceremony in Kitui County keeled over and sank as the motive force tried to navigate the surging waters.

Some aboard the stricken bus managed to flee earlier than the bus was rapidly submerged, and have been helped to security.

“We have this terrible, terrible accident that happened here this morning,” Kitui governor Charity Ngilu advised reporters.

“The bodies that have already been retrieved right now are over 23. We have more bodies in the bus,” she mentioned, including that efforts to get better the corpses would resume on Sunday morning.

She mentioned 12 individuals had been rescued, together with 4 kids.

It stays unclear what number of passengers have been aboard the bus when it tipped into the Enziu River, about 200 kilometres (125 miles) east of the capital Nairobi.

Witnesses mentioned the motive force had stopped to barter the river, and was near the opposite aspect when the bus was swept beneath the churning currents.

Deputy President William Ruto was amongst these to increase his condolences, and in addition urged motorists to use further warning on the roads with many elements of Kenya experiencing heavy rain.
