(AP) Mississippi hoisted a brand new state flag with out the Confederate battle emblem on Monday, simply over six months after legislators retired the final state banner within the U.S. that included the divisive insurgent image.
The new flag has a magnolia and the phrase, “In God We Trust.” Voters authorised the design in November.
On Monday, Gov. Tate Reeves signed a regulation to make it an official state image.
Momentum to alter the Mississippi flag constructed shortly in June as protests in opposition to racial injustice had been taking place throughout the nation.
Legislators created a fee to design a brand new flag, specifying that the banner couldn’t embrace Confederate imagery and that it should embrace “In God We Trust.”
