Malabar Exercise In 2 Phases, To Begin On November 3: Navy

The 24th version of the Malabar Naval train will probably be performed in two phases in November, the Indian Navy stated in a press release on Friday, saying the schedule for the army drill that will probably be attended by all 4 companions of the Quadrilateral alliance. The first part of the drill will probably be held between 3-6 November off Visakhapatnam in Bay of Bengal to “showcase the high-levels of synergy and coordination between the friendly navies,” it added.

This is the primary time that every one 4 Quad partners- India, the United States, Australia and Japan – will take part collectively in a naval train of this scale, which, consultants say, is a big strategic win for the alliance that seeks to counterbalance China’s rising affect within the Indo-Pacific area.

“The exercise, being conducted as a ‘non-contact, at sea only’ exercise in view of COVID-19 pandemic, will showcase the high-levels of synergy and coordination between the friendly navies, which is based on their shared values and commitment to an open, inclusive Indo-Pacific and a rules-based international order,” the assertion stated, implying India’s oft-repeated place on China’s naval actions within the South China sea.

“The Indian Navy participation in Phase 1 will be led by Rear Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet. Indian Navy units participating in the exercise include destroyer Ranvijay, frigate Shivalik, Off Shore Patrol Vessel Sukanya, Fleet Support Ship Shakti and submarine Sindhuraj,” it added.

Advanced Jet Trainer Hawk, long-range maritime patrol plane P-8I, Dornier maritime patrol plane, and helicopters will even be taking part within the train.

“Phase-1 of MALABAR 20 will witness participation of Indian Navy units with USN Ship USS John S McCain (Guided-missile destroyer), RAN Ship HMAS Ballarat (long range frigate) with integral MH-60 helicopter, and JMSDF Ship JS Onami (Destroyer) with integral SH-60 helicopter,” the Navy acknowledged.

The part 1 of the drill will probably be targeted on complicated and superior naval workout routines together with floor, anti-submarine and anti-air warfare operations, cross deck flying, seamanship evolutions and weapon firing workout routines.

The second part of the train will probably be performed in mid-November on the Arabian metropolis.
