Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday mentioned a senior state IPS officer has been relieved of duties, after a video displaying him assaulting his spouse went viral on social media.

In the video, the officer, Purushottam Sharma is seen thrashing his spouse, whereas the latter is seen resisting the assault.

“The officer has been relieved of his duties. Action will be taken against anyone who holds a responsible position, but indulges in illegal activities and taking law into his hands,” the chief minister mentioned.

The order to take away Sharma, 1986 batch IPS officer, from the submit of Director Public Prosecution was issued by the state house division Under-Secretary Annu Bhalavi.

There is not any official affirmation to this point of studies that the IPS officer was caught red-handed by his spouse of 32 years at a girl’s home, after which he assaulted her.

State girls’s fee chairperson Shobha Oza termed the incident as extremely objectionable and shameful.

She mentioned the motion taken by the state authorities towards Sharma is “inappropriate” and demanded his instant dismissal from the service and registration of a prison case towards him.
