Labour Min Santosh Gangawar asks states to coordinate with management rooms to resolve migrant staff’ issues

Labour Minister Santosh Gangawar has requested states/UTs to designate nodal officers to coordinate with the 20 management rooms arrange by the ministry to mitigate staff’ issues amid the coronavirus lockdown. Gangawar shot off a letter to states after it emerged that greater than two-thirds of the complaints obtained by the management rooms pertained to states/union territories.

The labour ministry has arrange 20 management rooms pan-India to handle wage-related grievances and to mitigate issues confronted by migrant staff amid the lockdown. These staff grievance redressal centres have been arrange after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had introduced extension of the nationwide lockdown until May 3, with conditional relaxations from April 20 in some areas.

“Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar has requested various State/UT Governments to designate a nodal officer from Labour Department to coordinate with Control Rooms set up by Union Government for addressing issues of the labour/workers in the country in view the lockdown announced to combat COVID-19 pandemic,” a ministry assertion mentioned.

In the letter shot off by Gangwar on Friday to the labour ministers of states/UTs, he mentioned, “The coordinated efforts of Central and State Governments are required in order to resolve the grievances of the workers.”

Initially, the management rooms have been involved with wage associated grievances associated to central sphere and problems with migrant labour, the ministry mentioned. However, it has been noticed that out of a complete 2,100 grievances obtained within the 20 management rooms until Friday, 1,400 pertain to varied state/UT governments, it said.

Labour being a concurrent topic, it will be important that correct coordination is established with varied state/UT governments to resolve the grievances, the minster mentioned.  The minister additionally forwarded the checklist of 20 Central Control Rooms together with names of officers deputed by the central authorities for prepared reference.
