Illegal Coal Mining Case: CBI Conducts Raids at Premises of Anup Majhi’s Business Associates in Bengal

Officials of the CBI’s anti-corruption department on Wednesday raided the premises of a number of businessmen believed to be shut associates of Anup Majhi alias Lala, the alleged kingpin of the unlawful coal buying and selling racket within the Asansol-Ranigunj belt of West Bengal, sources within the company stated. The officers performed search operations at 10 locations, together with workplaces and residences of these businessmen, sources stated.

The CBI is of the view that 1000’s of crores of rupees have been concerned within the rip-off, arising out of unlawful mining from deserted mines of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), and a part of the crime proceeds was transacted by way of the hawala route, for which the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has joined the probe. The ED on Monday raided 12 premises throughout West Bengal – residences and workplaces of people who find themselves thought of near Majhi.

The CBI on November 28 final 12 months carried out a large search operation at 45 places in 4 states after registering a case in opposition to Manjhi who was suspected to be appearing in collusion with two basic managers and three safety personnel of the ECL.
