Ex Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, 11 Congress MLAs Join Trinamool

Mukul Sangma and the MLAs have already written to the Assembly Speaker

Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, together with 11 of the 17 Congress MLAs within the state, has joined the Trinamool Congress in an enormous coup for Bengal’s ruling social gathering within the northeast. The Meghalaya MLAs have already written to the meeting speaker Metbah Lyngdoh concerning this. The meeting has 60 seats.

The induction — which made Trinamool the principal opposition social gathering within the state — got here because the social gathering chief Mamata Banerjee is in Delhi and candidly spoke of her plans for a united opposition.

Over the final couple of months, the Trinamool has been on an enlargement mode — most of it at the price of the Congress.

Ms Banerjee, identified to share a cordial relationship with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, has not met her this time, though there was a buzz a few assembly.

Asked concerning the matter, the Trinamool chief flared up. She had sought no appointment with Sonia Gandhi, as “they are busy with Punjab polls”, Ms Banerjee mentioned. Then she pointedly added, “Why should we meet Sonia every time? It is not constitutionally mandated”.

The Trinamool has been making an attempt to increase its footprint in Tripura and Goa with an eye fixed to the subsequent spherical of meeting elections in these states.  

In Tripura, the social gathering has been at loggerheads with the state’s ruling BJP forward of tomorrow’s civic elections.  In Goa, it’s banking on Luizinho Faleiro, the state’s former Chief Minister.

Yesterday, Ms Banerjee’s social gathering made three key acquisitions – that gave her a toehold in a minimum of two extra states – Haryana and Punjab.

Besides Team India batsman Kirti Azad, former Rahul Gandhi aide Ashok Tanwar, and Rajya Sabha MP Pawan Verma for Janata Dal United, who fell out together with his boss Nitish Kumar.  

The earlier Congress entrants within the social gathering included late president Pranab Mukherjee’s son Abhijit Mukherjee, Sushmita Dev, the previous Congress MP from Silchar and daughter of late Congress stalwart Santosh Mohan Dev.

In Delhi at the moment, Ms Banerjee —  whose large victory within the April-May meeting elections in Bengal had set off a buzz about her spearheading the opposition problem to the BJP within the 2024 normal elections – mentioned she was prepared to assist oust the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

She mentioned she would go to Varanasi – PM Modi’s Lok Sabha structure – and the large opposition hub of Mumbai to satisfy Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
