All states and Union Territories have been requested to make sure satisfactory preparations for security, shelter and meals safety of migrant labourers and stranded folks, in accordance with an official communique. The directive assumes significance as there have been latest situations of migrants unrest in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Besides, there are studies that migrant labourers had been dealing with issues in arranging meals and shelter for them and their households as a result of ongoing lockdown to include the coronavirus pandemic.
Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba has requested the states that district collectors should appoint nodal officers who can be chargeable for coordinating the preparations for migrant labourers, it mentioned.
“Each camp should be put in charge of a senior officer,” a Home Ministry spokesperson mentioned in a tweet on Thursday.
