Indian Foreign Service officer Devyani Uttam Khobragade has been appointed as India’s subsequent ambassador to Cambodia, the Ministry of External Affairs stated on Thursday.
Ms Khobragade, a 1999-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, is presently serving as a joint secretary within the ministry at its headquarters in Delhi.
“She is expected to take up the assignment shortly,” the MEA stated in a launch.
In her almost 21-year profession, Ms Khobragade has served in Indian missions in Berlin, Islamabad, Rome and New York.
She had hit the headlines in 2013 as motion in opposition to her by the authorities in New York on prices of underpaying her Indian maid had snowballed into a serious row between the 2 international locations.
She then was serving as India’s deputy consul common in New York.
In the MEA headquarters, Ms Khobragade served in a number of wings together with the PAI (Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran), Central Europe, Finance and CPV (Consular Passport, Visa) divisions.
