Customs officers in Detroit seize a ton of marijuana hidden in pool toys

These usually are not your common pool toys.

Customs officers in Michigan found a whopping 2,175 kilos of marijuana in a cargo labeled as “pool toys” on May 11, in line with a information launch from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The unlawful cargo was first observed throughout an X-ray scan of an inbound tractor trailer on the Fort Street Cargo Facility in Detroit. The paperwork for the cargo said that it was “a shipment of foam pool toys,” Kris Grogan, department chief for northern/coastal areas at CBP Public Affairs, advised CNN. The tractor trailer was headed for Ontario, Canada, Grogan added.

When officers and a Ok-9 group investigated additional, they found that there have been no pool toys contained in the containers – simply over a ton of marijuana and packing peanuts.

“This seizure underscores CBP’s long standing commitment to the border security mission,” Port Director Devin Chamberlain stated within the information launch. “The men and women of CBP continue to work diligently to keep our Nation and our communities safe.”

CBP seized 319,000 kilos of marijuana in 2021, in line with the company.
