Arunachal Chief Minister Not Satisfied With North East Council’s Work



Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu is dissatisfied with the functioning of North East Council (NEC)


Expressing his discontentment with the functioning of the North East Council (NEC), Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu mentioned “nothing concrete” was popping out of the company.

During a gathering with North East Council Secretary Ok Moses Chalai on Friday, Mr Khandu rued that the NEC has develop into only a funding company of late, as per an official assertion.

“We have been having deliberations after deliberations but nothing concrete is coming out from NEC. I believe it has bigger roles to play,” he mentioned.

“The North East Council must reinvent itself as a regional think tank with a greater focus on key areas,” he added.

Mr Khandu mentioned the North East Council will be to Northeast what the NITI Ayog is to the nation — a one-point answer centre.

“Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have the political will to transform the North East. It’s up to you (NEC) to come out with a roadmap,” he instructed Mr Chalai.

Stressing that an empowered North East Council should present mentorship for planning and oversight in all precedence sectors, Mr Khandu urged the company to play the function of an institutional anchor for the Northeast states, and assist draw a blueprint of complete improvement.

He mentioned funding shouldn’t be the only real agenda of North East Council.

“We are lucky to have a secretary who hails from the region. You must take a personal interest and empower NEC as an agency to reckon with for the development of the North East,” Mr Khandu instructed the official who known as on him.

He urged the secretary to recommend the best way ahead to all Chief Ministers of the area, who can then collectively work on it and impress upon the central authorities.

Explaining the range in demography and geography of Arunachal Pradesh, Mr Khandu reminded Mr Chalai of the entire dependence of the state on central grants and aids.
