Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court has raised issues over the misuse of the anti-cow slaughter legislation in Uttar Pradesh to “target innocent people” and the dearth of forensic proof to show that the recovered meat is beef.

Granting bail to 1 Rahmuddin who was allegedly concerned in cow slaughter, Justice Sidharth in his order stated the misuse of the Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955, has been resulting in harmless individuals languishing in jail.

“The Act is being misused against innocent persons. Whenever any meat is recovered, it is normally shown as cow meat (beef) without getting it examined or analyzed by the forensic laboratory. In most of the cases, meat is not sent for analysis. Accused persons continue to remain in jail for an offence that may not have been committed at all,” the High Court order stated.

In the order handed on 19 October however made out there days later, the excessive courtroom additionally noticed that there’s have to take care of older non-milking cows that are deserted by homeowners, if the legislation in opposition to the slaughter of cows is to be applied in letter and spirit.

Rahmuddin, the petitioner on this case, had stated there have been no particular allegations in opposition to him within the FIR and he was not arrested from the place of the incident. Further, no train was performed by police to examine whether or not the meat recovered was cow meat or not.
